This week while I am visiting Accadia National Park and nearby working waterfront communities in Maine, the local news reported that three kayakers – one of them a 54 year old from New Jersey – capsized in suddenly rough ocean conditions and two of the three died from hypothermia. One of the dead is the kayak tour guide.
One of the kayakers was rescued by a commercial waterman. Apparently the local lobster boats voluntarily organize to conduct a search and rescue operation in an emergency like this.
I was considering a kayak tour this week but this news story dulled my interest.
